GamesRadar+ is the third largest games entertainment site on the internet. As the design lead, my responsibilities include creating and crafting a language of visual systems, interaction and content strategy to an audience of editors, gamers and movie fanatics. During my tenure, I oversaw multiple redesigns that increasingly grew traffic with every release. I found new ways to engage new users, created more efficient workflow processes and most importantly – through failure and process, found my technique learned how to produce product at a very high level.

Site Goals

The main goal was to increase unique visitors and pages view to the site, extend user engagement, and compel users to share content on social media.

Process

Content strategy experiments, surveys and user testing drove the process. It was time to rapidly increase our traffic numbers and transform our audience into an entertainment destination. We found a sweet spot of editorial content. We had to be where users were at – 50% of our users viewed the site on their mobile devices. We also found huge potential in organic search. Proper SEO techniques were put in place and combined with a much cleaner responsive interface.

Perfomance and KPI

Lastly, we created a social strategy accompanied with a custom built set of social sharing buttons to move traffic back and forth from social media sites. That proved to be the recipe for a consumer site to thrive and grow to over 80 miliion page views per month.
